The Pembridge Association AGM 2014

The Pembridge Association will be holding its next Annual General Meeting at 8 pm on Thursday 27th February 2014 at the New Church Hall, 5 Pembridge Villas, London W11. While the AGM is for its Members we are always glad to welcome other local residents to attend in the hope that they will join as new members to help us care for the Pembridge Conservation Area. Anyone wanting information about the Association can get this from our website at www.pembridgeassociation.org or by E-mailing to Chairman@PembridgeAssociation.com

Imperial College Housing Scheme in Pembridge Road

Imperial College have been having discussions with the Pembridge Association and have had two Pre-Application Meetings with the Council about the new proposals that they are putting forward for their site at the rear of 28-32 Pembridge Gardens that fronts on to Pembridge Road. This is a more traditional terrace housing proposal and the Association has welcomed the new approach. It is expected that a formal planning application will be submitted shortly allowing local residents to submit any comments as art of the Council's formal consultation process.

Land to the Rear of 28 Pembridge Gardens

The latest application for the construction of a terrace of housing along the Pembridge Road frontage has been refused by the Council as it made inadequate provision for the supply of "affordable housing" to meet the Council planning policy. The Pembridge Association had no objections in principle to this proposed development apart from a few minor concerns.

Land to Rear of 28-32 Pembridge Gardens

The Council’s Planning Applications Committee has refused the planning application submitted by Imperial College for the redevelopment of the site along its Pembridge Road frontage for 14 residential dwellings together with associated works and landscaping. The Pembridge Association had objected strongly to the applications as being totally out of character with the Pembridge Conservation Area.

Garden Party 2009

The Executive Committee of the Pembridge Association, at it’s meeting in February 2009, regretfully decided that it would not be possible to organise its annual garden party in Pembridge Square Garden this year. As it happens, in any case, the area of the garden at the east end of the Square, where it normally holds its garden party, is currently being refurbished and it might not have been available with any certainty anyway. It is hoped to hold the garden party in 2010.

25/26 Pembridge Square, W2

This hotel has recently been sold and it is understood that there may be a planning application submitted shortly to change the use to a single residential unit. The Pembridge Association Newletter, in 2005, drew attention to the dilapidated state of the external elevation and it is now hoped that with a change of owner the frontage to Pembridge Square can be restored to its original character as befits the elegance of the period represented by a number of other properties in the square.

In view of the strong local objections to this application Cllr David Campion has asked that the application should be decided by the Planning Services Committee if the planning officers should decide to recommend approval.

6 Chepstow Crescent - Planning permission refused

At he Council's Planning Services Committee on 27/03/2007 the application for No 6 Chepstow Crescent was refused on the grounds of overdevelopment and because of the risk that the structural alterations, involving a deep double basement incorporating a swimming pool, might have on the adjoining properties as a result of differential settlement. The Pembridge Association did not object to the proposal to increase the height of the property nor to the elevational chagnes that were proposed.
